S. J. Terra - Author
Author of the 'Change the World' series for young people and MORE!
Sandra J. Terra is a mom of five young adults, has been a wife for thirty years to the same mechanic, and is a lifelong follower of Christ. She ran track and field, shot air defence artillery, mended as a military medic, raised at least another fifty children through her daycare and V.B.S. leadership, and trained with the R.C.M.P.. Her service dogs have learned to navigate the Canadian healthcare system, mostly. She took up her laptop to write stories for her youngest reader that reflected the values and stories of her own faith and culture.
Her Opa (Dutch Grandfather) wrote books, newsletters, corrospondance and articles throughout his life on a very large typewriter despite being blind for the last thirty years of his life. Sandra wrote stories every since a crayon would stay in her fingers. She won awards for her Remembrance Day poems and started a novel in junior high. More recently she had an essay published in ‘Disability Ways’, an anthology distributed through Arts AccessAbility Network Manitoba (AANM). In the years between she wrote and told stories to children, shared anecdotes with friends and family, published newsletters for church and kept journals around special moments in her life. Through it she sees an unbreakable thread of both Hope and Humour. Sharing her faith is a calling she feels deeply and does it with a smile on her face.
Inspiration from the best sources
Sandra's own children offer lots of inspiration for her characters, their interests and various challenges but it is more often her beliefs and desire to follow Christ's teachings that drives her to write. Whether it is a retelling of the first story, the greatest story or her own story, her speculative fiction crosses in and out of the Christian books genre. The Change the World collection does not push any specific religion but hopefully opens up doors for discussion. Some stories are more traditional for the genre including Christian characters struggling with their faith. Other stories may not mention God or Christ in any way but being a Christian will filter through all her work. She does not preach her beliefs in her books, she only shares them so others can understand.
